Management freshman Luke Bishop is from Edmond, Oklahoma and plays for the UTRGV Men’s Tennis Team. Bishop dominated in his Compass 3 finals against Our Lady of the Lake’s University sophomore Louis Bocquet 6-1, 6-3.
Q: What is a fun fact about yourself?
A: “I’m a very big Oklahoma City Thunder fan. It’s like my hometown team growing up. I went to a lot of games and still do when I get the chance.
Q: What got you into tennis?
A: “I started out doing, like, a tennis camp when I was 7 or 8. And then, my dad helped me get into it because he played in high school and when he was a kid, as well.”
Q: Who has been your biggest inspiration or role model?
A: “I probably have to say my dad just cause I see how hard [he] works every day, [trying to] do the right thing, following his footsteps.”
Q: Who is your favorite tennis player?
A: “My favorite tennis player is Gaël Monfils.”
Q: What kind of music do you like to listen to?
A: “I don’t know. It depends on the day but, usually, I like to listen to a lot of rap and R&B.”
Q: Are there any shows or movies that you like to watch?
A: “Not really. I don’t really watch any shows or movies.”
Q: Do you have any hobbies?
A: “Yeah. I like to golf and play video games with my friends back home when I get the chance.”
Q: What do you like most about UTRGV?
A: “Everybody is super welcoming. I’ve only been here for two months and I’ve just liked it so far. Everybody is super nice. Yeah, I feel like the community is really, really warm.”
Q: What are your biggest goals?
A: “My biggest goal is to graduate college and also to just keep developing my tennis game and see how far I can take me in the future.”
