Conservative commentator and Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk was shot and killed Wednesday during a live event at Utah Valley University.
The shooting occurred around 12:10 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time while Kirk was speaking as part of his “American Comeback Tour.”
UVU officials said he was struck by a single round and removed from the scene by his security team.
The investigation is ongoing.
Kirk was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to his injuries, according to President Donald Trump on a Truth Social post.
“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead… Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!” Trump wrote.
Utah Valley University has closed its campus and canceled classes until further notice while law enforcement continues its investigation.
