The Student Government Association held a town hall for the College of Sciences last Friday in the Science Building on the Edinburg campus.
The meeting was hosted by Sens. Isabella Zapata and Kimberly Moran, who represent the students of the College of Sciences.
โWeโre here to represent the student body and hear [its] concerns and from there, go and either write legislation about it [or] bring awareness to it,โ Zapata said.
The meeting was held to hear students out, give them a platform to voice their concerns and inform them of how the SGA functions and its purpose. Attendance was sparse however, as only two students showed up to the event.
The SGA holds two town halls for every college per semester on the Brownsville and Edinburg campuses. These are held separately from general meetings, which are not specific to any college.
General meetings are held biweekly for the student body as a whole to voice its concerns, rotating between the Brownsville and Edinburg campuses.
The senators informed students about Meet the Deans, an event hosted by the SGA that allows students to meet with the deans of all the colleges at UTRGV.
Meet the Deans will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at the PlainsCapital Bank El Gran Salรณn on the Brownsville campus and at the same time Nov. 6 at the University Ballroom on the Edinburg campus.
The next SGA senate meeting will take place at 3 p.m. Friday in Student Academic Center Room 1.102 on the Edinburg campus.
