The UTRGV Football Team held its second spring game with a crowd of 2,831 attendees today at Sams Memorial Stadium in Brownsville, a first for the stadium since its renovation in 2025.
The white team over took the orange team in a 14 to 7 finish.
The kickoff started with the white team making a 16-yard rush touchdown by Fabian Gracia, a redshirt freshman running back. After the kick by Brysen Gradner, a redshirt sophomore, the orange team went on offense.
The orange offense, led by Garret Rangel, redshirt junior quarterback, was pushing the white team by rushing for 13 yards, but the defense caused them to go to 4th down at the 35-yard line.
Orange went for a kick by Gardner, but the kick was no good.
By the end of the first quarter, the white team led 7 to 0.

The second and third quarters stayed scoreless.
During the third quarter, Tate Davis, redshirt freshman offensive line for the orange team, was injured and taken off the field. As of press time, there are no updates regarding the player’s condition.
Entering the fourth quarter, Brennan Carroll, a redshirt freshman running back for the white team, scored a 6-yard rushing touchdown with Gardner securing the extra point, making the score 14 to 0.
Toward the end of the quarter, Braden Baize, redshirt sophomore wide receiver, scored the first touchdown for the orange team with Troop O’Neal, redshirt freshman kicker, scoring the extra point.
The game ended 14 to 7 with the white team coming out on top.
Head Coach Travis Bush said it was great to be in Brownsville and have all the fans in attendance.
“Greatful to get over here at Brownsville and have talked to all the fans that came out,” Bush said. “… You know we enjoyed it, we supported coming back.”
He said the game was good energy for both teams.
“It was good,” Bush said. “It was what we expect. That they were excited. They got after it. They competed well.”
White team player Jaxson Maynard, a redshirt freshman linebacker, said it is great to have bragging rights over the orange team.
“It’s definitely a fun environment competition,” Maynard said. “So, this is just the extra edge we have over them.”

He said the Vaqueros defense has been improving.
Garcia said he is from the lower Valley and loved being back.
“Just showing out for the lower Valley and just representing,” he said.
The Vaqueros will play their first season game against UT Permian Basin Aug. 29 at Robert & Janet Vackar Stadium in Edinburg.
