The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between Feb. 4 and 11.
Feb. 4
9:07 a.m.: An employee reported, while operating a university vehicle, he accidentally struck the side mirror of a parked and unattended vehicle between the University Complex and Liberal Arts Building South on the Edinburg campus. No injuries were reported, and contact was made with the operator of the unattended vehicle.
11:47 a.m.: A UTRGV police officer, while on foot patrol, saw the Fort Brown Villa 1 Condominiums on fire, near the Brownsville campus. The officer requested assistance from the Brownsville City Department and began warning tenants to evacuate. No injuries were reported, and the police and fire department arrived on scene and took control of the situation.
12:45 p.m.: Officers responded to an employee feeling ill in the University Library on the Edinburg campus. Shortly after, Emergency Medical Services arrived on scene and transported the employee to a hospital for further evaluation.
Feb. 5
12:30 p.m.: An officer met with a student who reported his parked and unattended vehicle was struck by an unknown vehicle in Lot B-1 on the Brownsville campus. The case is under investigation.
1:45 p.m.: A student reported her bicycle was stolen by an unknown individual near Unity Hall on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
Feb. 6
12:07 p.m.: An officer spoke with a faculty member, who said a student had left the classroom without returning and left her belongings behind in the Student Academic Center on the Edinburg campus. Officers contacted both the student and her mother, who explained she was picked up because she was feeling ill. The student’s mother arrived to pick up her belongings.
12:54 p.m.: Officers responded to a fire alarm in the Dining & Ballroom Complex on the Edinburg campus. The alarm was triggered by smoke that accumulated while an employee was cooking in the kitchen. Officers evacuated the building and contacted Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management, who inspected the area and later determined the building was safe to re-entry.
Feb. 9
8:33 a.m.: An officer responded regarding a non-affiliated man causing a disturbance with medical staff in the UT Dentistry Laredo Dental Clinic. After further investigation, it was determined that no crime had taken place. At the staff’s request, the man was issued a criminal trespass warning and left the area without any further issues.
2:22 p.m.: An employee reported finding graffiti in the men’s restroom on the second floor of the Mathematics and General Classrooms Building on the Edinburg campus. Officers photographed the writings and gathered additional information from the employee. The case is under investigation.
3:02 p.m.: An employee reported finding graffiti in the men’s restroom on the third floor of the Mathematics and General Classrooms Building on the Edinburg campus. Officers photographed the writings and gathered additional information from the employee. The case is under investigation.
4:46 p.m.: Officers were dispatched regarding a two-vehicle traffic collision in Lot E-18 on the Edinburg campus. No injuries were reported.
Feb. 10
1:09 p.m.: An employee reported finding graffiti in the men’s restroom in The Learning Center on the Edinburg campus. Officers photographed the writings and gathered additional information from the employee. The case is under investigation.
7:25 p.m.: Officers were dispatched regarding a student returning a wallet that was turned in as found property. After reviewing its contents, the student reported that $50 was missing. The case is under investigation.
Feb. 11
10:37 a.m.: An officer contacted two parties involved in a two-vehicle traffic collision in Lot E-9 on the Edinburg campus. No injuries were reported.
