
The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between Aug. 24 and 31.
Aug. 24
11:41 a.m.: An officer responded to a call at Unity Hall on the Edinburg campus regarding an individual trapped in the south side elevator. The individual said they were OK. The elevator was reset and determined to be functioning again.
12:26 p.m.: An officer responded to a call at the Main Building on the Brownsville campus regarding a non-affiliated man who had a seizure. The man refused EMS, signed a medical refusal form and then left campus.
12:54 p.m.: An employee reported an unknown individual driving a truck with a trailer struck a fire hydrant at the intersection of Sugar Road and University Drive. The case is under investigation.
Aug. 25
9:21 a.m.: A student reported slipping on water in the Student Services Building on the Edinburg campus. The individual said they injured their knee but will seek medical attention on their own.
8:12 p.m.: An officer responded to a call at the Casa Bella Apartments on the Brownsville campus regarding a man who trespassed and refused to leave the building. The case is under investigation.
Aug. 26
9:29 a.m.: An officer responded to an intoxicated woman in Lot B1 on the Brownsville campus. The woman’s brother took responsibility for her.
10:41 a.m.: An officer observed a vehicle strike a parked car in Lot B1 on the Brownsville campus. The owner of the parked vehicle was notified, and no injuries were reported.
10:43 a.m.: A student reported that when exiting her vehicle on the Brownsville campus, a woman gave her the middle finger. The case is under investigation.
11:03 a.m.: An officer observed a non-affiliated man urinating in a local parking lot off campus. The man was found under the influence and was arrested on a charge of public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
Aug. 27
8:30 a.m.: A student reported that his scooter was stolen from the bike rack at Unity Hall on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
11:28 a.m: A student reported that an unknown individual took items from her car at the Hub of Prosperity parking lot on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
12:55 p.m.: An officer responded to a call at the Casa Bella Apartments on the Brownsville campus regarding drug paraphernalia found by an employee. Officers took possession of the items.
1:30 p.m.: An officer responded to a call at the Vaquero Plaza on the Edinburg campus regarding a man who used obscene language toward a bus driver. The case is under investigation.
Aug. 28
12:52 p.m.: A student reported her laptop missing after she left it in a classroom on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
Aug. 29
8:59 p.m.: Officers responded to the student section of the Robert and Janet Vackar Stadium regarding a woman who was struck in the head by a football that flew in the stands from the field. EMS transported the student to McAllen Medical Center for further evaluation.
8:59 p.m.: An officer responded to a call at the Robert and Janet Vackar Stadium in Edinburg regarding two students who were struck in the head by a chair that was pushed by the wind. The two students said they were OK and refused medical services.
9:36 p.m.: An officer responded to a call at the Robert and Janet Vackar Stadium parking lot on the Edinburg campus regarding an intoxicated male student who was determined to be a danger to himself and others. The student was arrested on a charge of public intoxication.
9:58 p.m.: An officer responded to a call to a parking lot on the Edinburg campus regarding an intoxicated male who entered a vehicle without the owner’s consent. The male was arrested for criminal trespass and public intoxication.
Aug. 30
12:59 a.m.: Officers responded to a call at the Dining and Ballroom Complex on the Edinburg campus regarding a non-affiliated man who had trespassed and smoked marijuana at the building. The man was escorted off the building and was issued a criminal trespass and warning prohibiting him from all UTRGV property.
11:38 p.m.: Officers, EMS and the fire department responded to a call at the Hidalgo County Courthouse regarding a vehicle that struck the courthouse.
Aug. 31
10:47 a.m.: A Brownsville student reported being extorted by an unknown individual after sharing intimate photos on social media. The case is under investigation.
