Homecoming recap 2025 - The Rider Newspaper

UTRGV marked a new milestone this October as the university celebrated its first-ever Homecoming Week featuring football, following previous years of homecoming traditions centered around basketball season.

The week kicked off with the Homecoming Block Party on both campuses, where students gathered to enjoy live music, food, and activities aimed at promoting school spirit. (Read more here | Full gallery here.)

Events continued throughout the week, including Homecoming Fitness at the REC, where participants engaged in friendly competition and wellness challenges. (Full gallery.)

Excitement built up to UTRGV’s Homecoming football debut at Robert & Janet Vackar Stadium, where the the Vaqueros would face the University of the Incarnate Word in front of an energized crowd. (Full story.)

The UTRGV offense delivered a strong performance, securing a 56–28 victory over UIW. Freshman wide receiver Tony Diaz stood out with 17 catches for 172 yards and a one-handed touchdown grab. (Game recap.)
