The Brownsville Fire Department responded to a report of smoke earlier today at the Biomedical Research Building, according to Mario Guerrero, the cityâs assistant fire chief. âWe had a little smoke scare here with one of the boilers for the biomedical facility,â Guerrero said. âIt was being serviced and, apparently, it was left in service, but it malfunctioned.â Students, faculty and staff were asked to evacuate the building. âEverything is good to go, there’s no fire or any danger anymore,â he said. âRight now, weâre going to have one of our fire inspectors double check the fire alarm system to make sure itâs working properly and then we’ll let the students back in.â VICTOR G.
