Free student tickets to UTRGV Football home games will be available via email for the upcoming season.
Emails will be sent to students Sunday with a link that opens 8 a.m. Monday each week there is a home game scheduled.
The link is scheduled to close at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Tickets are on a first-come, first-served basis. As of press time Tuesday, student tickets for Saturday’s game against Sul Ross State University are sold out.
Sara Hernandez, senior associate athletic director for Marketing and Strategic Initiatives, said the process is to ensure there are no physical queues for tickets.
“We just want to make sure that students are not lining up in the heat, that they’re not doing any of those dangerous things in this weather,” Hernandez said.
On gamedays, students will need to present both their digital ticket they received via the link as well as their student IDs. According to Hernandez, this is to prevent non-students from using student tickets.
Out of a total capacity of 12,000, the Robert and Janet Vackar Stadium has a 3,000-seat student section, part of a $30 million project to upgrade the facility for UTRGV Football.
The Vaqueros will play their inaugural home game at 7 p.m. Saturday.
