The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between March 31 and April 6.
March 31
10:03 a.m.: An employee reported losing university-issued keys at an unknown off-campus location. A report was generated for documentation purposes.
11:13 a.m.: In the Education Complex on the Edinburg campus, a student reported she had recently ended her relationship with her boyfriend, a student, but she felt he was following her around campus. An officer informed him not to contact her, and the student agreed. A report was generated for documentation purposes.
12:35 p.m.: A female studentโs brother reported receiving an โSOSโ text from his sister, who was on the Edinburg campus. Contact was made with the female student, who confirmed the text was a mistake. A report was generated for documentation purposes.
1:24 p.m.: A student on the Edinburg campus reported she was not feeling well after having consumed a possible narcotic while at an off-campus location. Emergency medical services arrived and transported the student to Edinburg Regional Hospital for further evaluation.
3:23 p.m.: A student reported her vehicle sustained minor damage while parked unattended in Lot E-27 on the Edinburg campus. A report was generated for documentation purposes.
4:09 p.m.: A student reported her vehicleโs gas cap had been stolen while it was parked in Lot E-9 on the Edinburg campus. Camera footage was reviewed and revealed the incident did not occur on campus. A report was generated for documentation purposes.
5:09 p.m.: An employee reported university-owned laboratory equipment had been stolen from a lab at the Research Education Building on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
5:16 p.m.: A student reported receiving a suspicious phone call while at the Innovation Building on the Edinburg campus. An investigation concluded the call was a scam in an attempt to obtain monetary gain. A report was generated for documentation purposes.
April 1
8:26 a.m.: An employee reported damage to the windshield of a university-owned vehicle after it was struck by a rock while traveling on the expressway near Freddy Gonzalez Drive.
2:25 p.m.: An employee reported a television and Sony PlayStation were stolen from a lab in the Education Complex on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
5:05 p.m.: A Bursarโs Office employee at the Student Services Building on the Edinburg campus reported being short $200 on her cash register. A report was generated for documentation purposes.
7:43 p.m.: A student reported that while riding in a shuttle bus to the Harlingen campus, a male studentโs inappropriate conduct caused her to feel offended. The incident will be forwarded to Student Rights and Responsibilities for administrative review.
April 2
3:28 p.m.: An officer observed several men running toward the brush area behind the Vaquero Plaza on the Brownsville campus. The U.S. Border Patrol was notified and the agency subsequently detained five men. Two were from Mexico, one from Honduras, one from El Salvador and one from Guatemala.
April 4
11:47 a.m.: Officers responded to an ill-person call at the Liberal Arts Building South on the Edinburg campus. The student was experiencing chest pain and was having difficulty speaking. Emergency medical services arrived and transported him to Edinburg Regional Hospital for further evaluation.
1:01 p.m.: An employee reported striking an unattended vehicle in Lot E-32 on the Edinburg campus. The owner of the vehicle was located on campus. No injuries were reported.
2:56 p.m.: While operating a university golf cart, an employee reported striking and knocking down a small light fixture on the sidewalk outside the Research Education Building on the Edinburg campus. The officer observed the golf cart had no damages, and no injuries were reported.
April 5
1:32 p.m.: The Edinburg Fire Department and an officer responded to an active fire alarm at Heritage Hall on the Edinburg campus. The alarm indicated the basement waterflow fire monitor activated the alarm. Residents were evacuated as the fire department assessed the active alarm. The department deemed the building safe for re-entry and a work order was placed to have the fire panel system checked.
4:37 p.m.: A student reported the rear windshield to his vehicle was broken while it was parked in Lot E-21 on the Edinburg campus. The student informed the officer that the windshield already had a minor crack prior to his arrival on campus. Camera footage confirmed the windshield broke on its own while parked at the location. A report was taken for documentation purposes.
5:54 p.m.: A student reported losing his vehicle keys somewhere on the Edinburg campus. A report was taken for documentation purposes.
8:04 p.m.: A student reported losing her earbuds while at Liberal Arts South Building on the Edinburg campus on March 31. A report was taken for documentation purposes.
April 6
2:18 a.m.: An officer responded to a call in reference to a suspicious woman asking for money at Performing Arts Complex B on the Edinburg campus. An investigation revealed she had a criminal trespass warning. The officer placed the non-affiliated woman under arrest and transported her to the Edinburg city jail.
