The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between March 25 and 31.
March 25
11:56 a.m.: A student reported a family member of hers has been using her social security number without her consent to claim her as a dependent and gain monetary benefits. The case is under investigation.
2:29 p.m.: A student reported an unknown person had taken her personal belongings from a locked locker in the University Recreation on the Brownsville campus. Later, the student reported finding her belongings in the same locker where she had previously placed them.
4:44 p.m.: Officers were notified via Maxient of a concerning comment made by a student. The case is under investigation.
March 27
4:02 p.m.: An employee reported a purchase order was made using fraudulent UTRGV information to Sweetwater Music Instruments. The items purchased were scheduled for delivery to an address in Mesquite, Texas. There was no currency loss to UTRGV. The case is under investigation.
March 29
6:21 p.m.: Officers were notified of a campus power outage via dispatch. It was determined that a transformer on Van Week Street in Edinburg was emitting smoke and fire. The Edinburg Fire Department and American Electric Power arrived on scene, and power was soon restored.
March 30
9:50 a.m.: An employee reported that during her daily groundskeeping duties, she had accidentally damaged a vehicle’s window parked in Lot E-19 on the Edinburg campus. The owner was contacted, and arrangements were made for repairs.
9:23 p.m.: Officers responded after a student reported her vehicle had been struck while parked and left unattended in Lot E-19 on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
March 31
4:04 p.m.: An officer was dispatched regarding a fire alarm triggered by a sprinkler monitor sensor in the Clinical Education Building on the Harlingen campus. No signs of smoke or fire were detected. The Harlingen Fire Department arrived, inspected the building and deemed it safe for re-entry.
