The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between Sept. 17 and 21
Sept. 17
8:01 a.m.: An officer responded to the Brownsville campus police lobby regarding a road-rage incident on the expressway involving two students. Surveillance footage showed one driver making an obscene gesture toward the other. The case is under investigation.
8:55 a.m.: A student reported his cross-body bag missing from the Visual Arts Building on the Edinburg campus and said he believed another student may have taken it by mistake while he was studying.
10:37 a.m.: A student reported injuring her ankle after missing a step and slipping while walking down stairs at the Student Union on the Edinburg campus. She declined Emergency Medical Services and requested an escort to the Student Health Clinic.
10:53 a.m.: An employee reported losing his personal vehicle keys at the Education Complex on the Edinburg campus.
12:12 p.m.: A student reported a driver parked next to her in parking Lot E19 on the Edinburg campus damaged her vehicle while opening a door. Officers later identified the driver. The case is under investigation.
12:22 p.m.: Officers responded to the Life and Health Science building on the Brownsville campus after a student became trapped in a restroom because of a malfunctioning door handle. Facilities personnel repaired the handle, and the student exited safely without injuries.
1:57 p.m.: An officer observed a student fall from his scooter in parking Lot E19 on the Edinburg campus. The student sustained minor injuries but declined Emergency Medical Services.
7:30 p.m.: A student reported misplacing his wallet and keys while on the Edinburg campus.
9:10 p.m.: A student reported noticing his earphones missing from his backpack while at his residence and believed he lost them while on the Edinburg campus.
Sept. 18
7:30 a.m.: An officer responded to a smoke odor at the Maryalice Shary Shivers Building on the Edinburg campus. The officer determined that a faulty water pump had overheated and caused the burning odor. Environmental Health and Safety later cleared the building for reentry.
9:36 a.m.: A student reported damage to her vehicle that she believed occurred while it was parked and unattended in parking Lot E16 on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
10:29 a.m.: UTRGV Police, Environmental Health and Safety and the Edinburg Fire Department responded to the Health & Physical Education Building 1 after an emergency light fixture caught fire. The fire was extinguished and determined to have been caused by an electrical issue that spread to a nearby piece of wood. No injuries were reported.
11:26 a.m.: Officers responded to the UT Health RGV Primary Care on Maco Drive in Harlingen regarding a nonaffiliated man causing a verbal disturbance. Officers determined no criminal offense occurred, but at the request of the clinic supervisor, they issued the man a criminal trespass warning because of his prior history with the clinic.
11:52 a.m.: A student reported damage to her vehicle while it was parked and unattended in parking Lot E14 on the Edinburg campus. The student found a note on her windshield left by the person who caused the damage.
10:49 p.m.: Officers responded to the University Library on the Edinburg campus after two employees became trapped in a service elevator. Officers manually opened the doors, and both employees exited safely and declined medical treatment.
Sept. 19
11:52 a.m.: Officers responded to the loading dock area at Robert and Janet Vackar Stadium in Edinburg regarding an intoxicated contract employee. Officers determined he posed a danger to himself or others and arrested him on a charge of public intoxication. He was also issued a criminal trespass warning.
6:13 p.m.: Officers and Emergency Medical Services responded to Robert and Janet Vackar Stadium in Edinburg after an employee passed out. EMS transported the employee to McAllen Medical Center for further evaluation.
6:26 p.m.: Officers responded to the H-E-B Festival area at Robert and Janet Vackar Stadium in Edinburg regarding an intoxicated female student. She was initially permitted to leave with a sober adult family member but was later found alone in the stadium. Officers arrested her on a charge of public intoxication.
7:52 p.m.: Officers and Emergency Medical Services responded to the East Concourse at Robert and Janet Vackar Stadium in Edinburg regarding a non-affiliated man who injured his right knee. EMS transported him to Doctors Hospital at Renaissance for treatment.
8:49 p.m.: Officers responded to the canal north of Robert and Janet Vackar Stadium in Edinburg regarding a man who had fallen into the canal. Officers helped him out and determined he was intoxicated and posed a danger to himself or others. He was arrested on a charge of public intoxication.
8:53 p.m.: Officers and Emergency Medical Services responded to the student seating area at Robert and Janet Vackar Stadium in Edinburg regarding a student who had fainted. EMS transported the student to a local hospital for treatment, and the student’s mother accompanied the ambulance.
9:16 p.m.: Officers observed a male student walking unsteadily and vaping at Robert and Janet Vackar Stadium in Edinburg. The student appeared intoxicated but was released to a responsible adult.
Sept. 20
10:44 p.m.: An officer responded to a bus stop in the 1100 block of Van Week Avenue regarding a welfare concern involving a female student. The student said she was feeling ill, and Emergency Medical Services transported her to a hospital. Her boyfriend was contacted at her request and informed of where she had been taken.
Sept. 21
2:29 p.m.: A student reported being involved in a minor two-vehicle collision in parking Lot E26 on the Edinburg campus earlier that morning.
3:43 p.m.: A student reported losing her wallet at the Health & Physical Education Building on the Edinburg campus.
5:04 p.m.: An officer responded to parking Lot E9 on the Edinburg campus regarding two students involved in a two-vehicle collision that resulted in minor injuries. Emergency Medical Services transported one student to a hospital for further evaluation.
7:57 p.m.: A female student reported that a male student riding an electric scooter ran over her foot in the area outside Unity Hall. The student said she planned to visit the Student Health Clinic for evaluation.
