Musician and Edinburg-native Bobby Pulido Jr. made an appearance Oct. 27 at the PlainsCapital Bank Theatre on the Edinburg campus to talk with UTRGV students about his vision for South Texas.
Pulido said he was a political science major in college.
“I do have a peculiar interest in policy and how it works ever since I was younger,” he said. “ There is people in Congress that don’t even have a high school diploma. What qualifies you, in my opinion, is caring.”
Pulido added, as a singer, his life is great.
“I would be taking a huge pay cut going in to fight with 434 other people,” he said. “ It is probably not the most enviable position. Sometimes, it can be hectic, but I want to go in to fight the good fight. I think public servants need to go in and fight the institutions … to help people and the institutions that hurt people.”
When asked how he would use his current public image to boost his candidacy, Pulido said it is important to get out and answer questions.
“The person I look to un-seat has not done [anything],” he replied. “There is no podcasts she’s ever done. She has never done town hall; she’s never gotten in front of people and answered questions. I think it is insulting to the constituents you want to serve if you are not even able to answer their questions or face them.”
Pulido is seeking the Democratic candidacy for Texas’ 15th congressional district, currently held by Republican Monica De la Cruz.
Primary elections will take place March 3, 2026, with the general elections to follow Nov. 3, 2026.
