Alejandro Arellano, a multidisciplinary senior from Brownsville, runs for the UTRGV Men’s Track & Field Team. Arellano earned All-Conference Third Team honors with the 4×400-meter relay team at the Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships from May 15 to 17 in Houston.
Q: What is a fun fact about yourself?
A: “I’m good at bowling.”
Q: Who or what got you started in track and field?
A: “I would say my girlfriend, as well as myself and God.”
Q: What has made you continue track and field?
A: “The support and the love that I get from my grandparents, my parents, my brother looking up to me, as well as my girlfriend and God. [It] keeps on pushing me to do well and strive to be the best.”
Q: Who has been your biggest inspiration or role model?
A: “I would say my parents and grandparents.”
Q: How do you mentally prepare for a track meet?
A: “I usually pray before the race starts, so that calms my nerves and puts everything to rest.”
Q: What kind of music do you listen to?
A: “I usually listen to the radio.”
Q: Which shows or movies do you like to watch?
A: “I like watching animation movies. Those are really good.”
Q: Do you have any hobbies?
A: “I just started golfing. I play video games, bowl and weightlifting.”
Q: What do you like most about UTRGV?
A: “It’s pretty close to home and getting all the opportunities that I have here at a Division I school.”
Q: What are your biggest goals?
A: “To graduate, first of all. And trackwise, I want to be one of the top in the nation.”
