The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between Oct. 29 and Nov. 3.
Oct. 29
11:45 a.m.: A student reported that her vehicle was possibly rear-ended by another vehicle at 7:45 a.m. Oct. 29 while at the intersection of North Sugar Road and West Schunior Street in Edinburg. She decided to go to class first instead of reporting it when it occurred. The officer checked the studentโs vehicle for damage and surveillance cameras and concluded no accident occurred.
2:33 p.m.: A staff member reported losing university-issued keys at the UT Health RGV Pediatric Specialties Clinic on the Edinburg campus in 2018.
5:06 p.m.: An officer responded to the International Trade & Technology building on the Edinburg campus in reference to two suspicious men in the area. The officer contacted the non-affiliated men on the 400 block of North Nevarez Drive. An investigation revealed both men had active warrants for parole violations out of Austin. The men were detained, issued criminal trespass warnings and transported to the Hidalgo County Jail for the active warrants. Once at the jail, the officer was notified that due to current jail restrictions, the men were not going to be accepted. The officer then released them at an off-campus location in Edinburg. The agency holding the warrants was notified that the men had been released and the warrants were reentered into the system.
7:51 p.m.: A woman reported injuring both knees after missing a step and falling down the stairs at the Health and Physical Education I building on the Edinburg campus. Emergency medical services arrived and transported her to Rio Grande Regional 24-Hour Emergency for further evaluation.
8:38 p.m.: A woman reported tripping while walking on the second floor of the Performing Arts Complex on the Edinburg campus and falling on her left knee. The woman declined emergency medical services at the scene.
Oct. 30
11:39 p.m.: A woman reported that she dropped off her daughter, a non-affiliated juvenile, at Lot E-16 on the Edinburg campus for an event at the Performing Arts Complex. The woman reported her daughter had not been answering her cell phone and was concerned because she could not get ahold of her. An investigation revealed the womanโs daughter had left to an off-campus restaurant with a group after the event had ended. The officer escorted the mother to the off-campus location, where she picked up her daughter without incident.
Oct. 31
1:10 a.m.: UTRGV Police Communications informed officers of border crossing activity near the area of Lot B-1 on the Brownsville campus that was observed on the border cameras. An officer responded and assisted a U.S. Border Patrol agent in searching the area. The U.S. Border Patrol agent subsequently took custody of five Mexican nationals who had been hiding in the area.
2:37 a.m.: An officer observed four men jumping the west side gate of Unity Hall on the Edinburg campus into the courtyard area. The men then allowed access to two women through the emergency exit. The officer detained all six individuals and confirmed all were current students. An investigation concluded the students living at Unity Hall allowed the two women into Unity Hall after visiting hours had ended. The resident assistant was notified, and the two non-residential women left the area without incident. The incident will be referred to Student Rights and Responsibilities for further review.
Nov. 1
8:50 a.m.: A staff member at the Physical Plant on the Edinburg campus reported a lost university tablet. About 11:08 a.m., the staff member confirmed the tablet had been located.
8:58 a.m.: An officer responded to the Environmental Health and Safety building on the Edinburg campus in reference to a vehicle parked on the roadway and blocking the exit. The officer made several attempts to locate the owner to no avail. The vehicle was towed from the location.
1:07 p.m.: A Veterans Affairs employee reported she lost two university-issued keys about a year ago. A report was generated for documentation purposes.
1:55 p.m.: A staff member reported losing his university-issued keys on the Edinburg campus on Oct. 29. A report was generated for documentation purposes.
3:34 p.m.: A staff member reported a student ordered a pizza at the Student Union on the Brownsville campus and walked off without paying for it. The officer contacted the student, who reported he had been distracted and forgot to pay. The student paid the vendor without further incident.
7:12 p.m.: A student reported injuring her left ankle while practicing for a play at the Performing Arts Complex on the Edinburg campus. The student declined emergency medical services. A report was generated for documentation purposes.
11:59 p.m.: The Edinburg Fire Department and an officer responded to the Marialice Shary Shivers Building in reference to an active fire alarm. The fire panel indicated an active smoke detector on the first floor of the building. The fire department and the officer checked the building for smoke but found none. A work order was created to have smoke detectors serviced.
Nov. 2
11:43 a.m.: A student reported falling down on Oct. 31, while walking outside Heritage Hall on the Edinburg campus. She reported striking the back of her head when she fell and had not been feeling well. She requested emergency medical services and was transported to Rio Grande Regional Emergency Care for further evaluation.
Nov. 3
9:29 a.m.: On Oct. 29, a staff member reported two computer monitors with keyboards were missing from Portable Office Building B on the Brownsville campus. The staff member reported the furniture inside the building is in the process of being transferred to another location, which is possibly what happened to the computer monitors. A report was generated for documentation purposes.
2:49 p.m.: A UT Health employee reported a non-affiliated man at the UT Health RGV Surgical Specialty Clinic on the Harlingen campus refused to wear a mask while inside the clinic. The officer contacted the man, who was already outside the clinic before the officerโs arrival. The man informed the officer that he would not go back inside the clinic.
4:16 p.m.: A student reported he was approached by two unidentified men about 1:30 p.m. in the area of Lot E-33 on the Edinburg campus. The suspects were in a blue, late-model Dodge Charger. An occupant in the vehicle brandished a handgun at the student and then left the area. A Timely Warning Notification was sent in regard to this incident. The case is under investigation.
4:55 p.m.: A student reported his vehicle was scratched by a pointed object while it was parked in Lot E-16 on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
5:29 p.m.: A student reported losing a university-issued access control card on Oct. 26 at an unknown location in Brownsville. The card is in the process of being deactivated.
