The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between Jan. 20 and 28.
Jan. 20
9:40 a.m.: Officers responded after an employee reported a student was possibly smoking marijuana in the men’s locker room in the University Recreation on the Edinburg campus. When officers arrived, they found the student had already left the location. The employees could not provide any additional details at the time, but camera footage and the check-in database will be reviewed.
1:56 p.m.: Officers were dispatched regarding a collision involving a vehicle and a student on a scooter in Lot E-36 on the Edinburg campus. Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene and transported the student, who was riding the scooter, to the hospital.
5:32 p.m.: Officers were dispatched regarding a two-vehicle traffic collision in Lot E-19 on the Edinburg campus. No injuries were reported.
Jan. 21
3:14 p.m.: Officers were dispatched regarding a gas odor emanating from the Robert C. Vackar College of Business & Entrepreneurship Building on the Edinburg campus. Officers arrived on scene along with the Edinburg Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services. It was later determined there were no gas leaks in the area, and the building was safe for re-entry.
3:14 p.m.: A student reported her bicycle was stolen from the bike rack next to the Health Affairs Building West on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
4:46 p.m.: A student reported she left her scooter unsecured at the bike rack near the Robert C. Vackar College of Business & Entrepreneurship Building on the Edinburg campus. After class, it was gone. The case is under investigation.
Jan. 22
7:07 a.m.: An officer responded to a student who was feeling pain due to a previous traffic collision in The Village Apartments on the Edinburg campus. The student was transported to a hospital for further evaluation.
2:36 p.m.: An officer was dispatched regarding a student who was feeling ill in the Student Union on the Edinburg campus. The student was evaluated by Emergency Medical Services and transported to a hospital.
6:36 p.m.: A student reported damage to her vehicle in Lot E-12 on the Edinburg campus. Review of CCTV footage confirmed a traffic collision occurred, and the other driver left the scene. The case is under investigation.
Jan. 23
1:03 p.m.: An employee reported she had noticed items inside her office moved around in the Education Complex on the Edinburg campus. After further investigation, it was determined no property was reported missing.
1:43 p.m.: An employee handed a knife to an officer she found on the second floor in the University Library on the Edinburg campus. The officer took custody of the knife and submitted it for safekeeping.
3:35 p.m.: An officer contacted a student who attempted to pay a student loan with counterfeit bills in the Student Services Building on the Edinburg campus. The bills were recovered and submitted as evidence. The case is under investigation.
Jan. 25
2:04 a.m.: An officer conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle for a traffic violation at 1600 W. Schunior Road. During the stop and investigation, the officer believed the driver to be intoxicated. When the officer attempted to arrest her, she resisted. The driver was taken into custody adn arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest; search or transport. The driver was transported to the Edinburg Municipal Jail for booking.
11:34 a.m.: An employee reported a water leak in Liberal Arts Building South Room 160C on the Edinburg campus. A work order was submitted, and the cooling plant staff were informed.
Jan. 26
3:39 a.m.: An officer responded to an active fire alarm in the Vaquero Performance Center on the Edinburg campus. The Edinburg Fire Department was already on scene. They found the alarm caused by a smoke detector in the women’s locker room. The fire panel was reset, and the building was cleared for re-entry.
Jan. 27
3:53 p.m.: A student reported damage to her vehicle in Lot E-22 on the Edinburg campus. A witness left a note on her windshield after observing the collision. The note contained information about the other vehicle that caused the collision. The case is under investigation.
Jan. 28
1:41 a.m.: An officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation. During contact, the officer noticed the driver showed signs of impairment. After further investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated and was subsequently arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated. He was transported to the Edinburg Municipal Jail.
