UTRGV is often seen as a hub of art, culture and self-expression. The prominent blend of Mexican and American styles, in addition to the various other cultures, makes it a unique place to attend school and live. This blend is apparent, especially through the clothing and styles of students on campus.
Who? Gilbert Godoy
What? Psychology senior
Wear? Godoy was wearing a bright graphic T-shirt paired with a colorful tropical print overshirt, light-wash denim and classic brown oxford dress shoes. โThis outfit is kind of tropical with a mixture of cool and warm colors. Itโs really vibrant,โ he said. Godoy credits his outgoing fashion choices to Geddy Lee, the lead singer of the band Rush and also takes inspiration from โ70s and โ80s fashion trends. โ[Lee] would wear platforms, chukka boots, tight pants and usually a kimono of some kind,โ he said. Godoy hopes his bold-style choices influence the campus community to be more daring in their style choices. โI think people should start wearing more bright colors, just like a mixture of different colors that contrast. Not just solid colors or your UTRGV T-shirt,โ he said.
ย Who? Joselyne Moreno
What? Accounting freshman
Wear? Moreno was on her way to class in a light blue shirt dress with floral embroidery. She said her style choices center on comfort above all else. โI was too lazy to wear jeans, so I wore this dress,โ she said, joking. โActually, comfort is really important to me.โ Instead of looking to others for fashion inspiration, she enjoys creating her own ensembles with as much originality as possible. She also encourages other students to not be afraid to take fashion risks. โDress how you like,โ Moreno said. โDonโt worry about what anybody says.โ
