The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between Feb. 12 and 17.
Feb. 12
12:08 p.m.: A student reported receiving unsolicited explicit visual material via social media. The case is under investigation.
8:15 p.m.: Officers were notified by an employee about a possibly intoxicated student at the Quad on the Edinburg campus. Officers spoke with the student and confirmed she was intoxicated in a public place. Officers located the student’s parents, who arrived at the scene to take their daughter.
9:46 p.m.: While working an event at the Quad, officers saw a man on the University Library roof on the Edinburg campus. After further investigation and contact with the man, it was confirmed he was a contracted plumber hired to perform repairs at the library.
Feb. 13
12:44 p.m.: An officer responded to an active alarm in the Dining & Ballroom Complex on the Edinburg campus. Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management arrived at the scene and deemed the area safe and clear for re-entry.
1:01 p.m.: An employee reported receiving a suspicious voice message. After further investigation, it was determined that no criminal offense had occurred.
Feb. 14
2:31 p.m.: Officers responded regarding a major water leak in the Dining & Ballroom Complex on the Edinburg campus. Campus Facilities Operations were contacted, and an employee arrived to address the issue.
Feb. 15
2:44 p.m.: Officers were dispatched regarding a child who was struck by a baseball while attending a game in the UTRGV Baseball Stadium on the Edinburg campus. Officers did not observe any injuries or markings on the child. Medical personnel at the location evaluated the child shortly thereafter. The child’s guardian denied transportation.
10:18 p.m.: An officer was dispatched regarding a fire alarm in the Engineering Building on the Edinburg campus. Upon arrival, there were no signs of smoke or fire. The fire panel indicated water flow in the mechanical room. Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management was contacted, who advised resetting the fire panel.
Feb. 16
3:16 p.m.: An employee reported finding graffiti in the men’s restroom on the first floor of the Liberal Arts Building South on the Edinburg campus. Officers photographed the writings and gathered additional information from the employee. The case is under investigation.
6:04 p.m.: Officers were dispatched regarding a non-affiliated woman who had fallen while walking up the stairs in the Performing Arts Complex on the Edinburg campus. The woman sustained minor injuries but refused Emergency Medical Services.
Feb. 17
8:21 a.m.: An employee reported damage in the form of scratches and engraved lettering on the surface of a mirror in The Learning Center on the Edinburg campus. Officers photographed the writings and gathered additional information from the employee. The case is under investigation.
9:10 a.m.: A non-affiliated male contractor reported an unknown suspect stole his backhoe and $400 in tools from Lot B-1 on the Brownsville campus. The backhoe was recovered using GPS data on Feb. 16 in Edcouch. A set of tools was missing from the backhoe’s storage area. The case is under investigation.
6:58 p.m.: An employee reported finding markings left in the men’s restroom on the first floor of The Learning Center on the Edinburg campus. Officers photographed the marks and gathered additional information from the employee. The case is under investigation.
11:47 p.m.: A student reported her vehicle was missing from Lot E-36 on the Edinburg campus. After further investigation, it was determined the vehicle had been repossessed by a recovery company.
