The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between Feb. 18 and 23.
Feb. 18
8:44 a.m.: An officer on patrol observed a large amount of water emitting from the Health and Physical Education II Building on the Edinburg campus. Upon further investigation, the source of the water was identified as a water heater. Campus Facilities Operations personnel were notified and arrived shortly thereafter.
2:36 p.m.: An employee reported damage involving engraved lettering on a mirror surface in the men’s restroom in the Science Building on the Edinburg campus. Officers photographed the writings and gathered additional information from the employee. The case is under investigation.
3:56 p.m.: A student reported discovering damage to his vehicle while it was parked and unattended in Lot E-13 on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
Feb. 19
1:06 p.m.: An employee reported she found a kitchen knife wrapped in a towel in Lot B-1 on the Brownsville campus. The officer took custody of the item and submitted it for safekeeping.
2:22 p.m.: Officers responded regarding an ill student in the Orville I. Cox Tennis Center on the Edinburg campus. Upon arrival, Emergency Medical Services medics evaluated the student. The student injured herself while playing tennis and experienced heat exhaustion. The student refused medical services.
Feb. 20
12:45 p.m.: An officer observed a two-vehicle traffic collision involving two students at 600 N. Sugar Road. Upon contact, neither driver claimed injury, but one began experiencing a panic attack and requested Emergency Medical Services. She was then transported to the hospital for further evaluation.
Feb. 22
9:13 p.m.: An officer responded to an active fire alarm in the Engineering Building on the Edinburg campus. Campus Facilities Operations checked the fire panel, which showed the water flow monitor was active. After inspecting the building, which was smoke- and fire-free, it was deemed safe. Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management was notified, and a work order was submitted.
Feb. 23
6:15 a.m.: An officer reported finding the sliding doors off the rails in the Clinical Education Building on the Harlingen campus. A work order was submitted for repairs.
12:07 p.m.: A student reported finding damage to her vehicle while it was parked and unattended in Lot B-2 on the Brownsville campus.
